CANDLEMASS Bassist: New Material Is 'Very Heavy, Evil, And Brutally Hard'
March 19, 2003After an extremely successful Summer of Doom Reunion 2002 tour and appearances at such big German festivals as Bang Your Head and Wacken, plus packed halls with fanatic fans in places like Athens, London, Oslo and Stockholm, the kings of doom — CANDLEMASS — are ready to kick some serious heavy ass again. Another summer of festivals is currently being booked, and will include additional gigs in Europe, as well as an appearance at the BW&BK 6 Pack Weekend in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday, June 14 alongside such acts as TROUBLE, JAG PANZER and EVERGREY, among others.
The band, whose last studio album featuring most of the original lineup came in the form of 1989's "Tales Of Creation", have not yet gotten around to planning a new CD, but have reportedly been in talks with several labels over the course of the past few weeks and are said to be considering the possibility of issuing a new album by this time next year. The Stockholm-based quintet have been playing around with a few ideas in their rehearsal room and the new riffs are "very heavy, evil, and also brutally hard," according to bassist/songwriter Leif Edling, who added that "we are looking for the right deal so we can make a worthy follow-up to what we did in the past. CANDLEMASS need a good budget to be able to demo stuff, go in pre-production sometime in the fall and record a hell of an album in the best studio we can find in Stockholm. Nothing less will do!"
